I first met Milena through an evening of shopping and conversation held by a mutual friend. Milena has extensive experience working as a Visuals Editor of Darling Magazine and now as a photographer and art director for many selective clients. Her refined taste and passion for design truly shines through in all of her work. Read on to meet Milena and find out more about how she got into photography and what inspires her.
Please introduce yourself!
Hi! I'm Milena Mallory [above photo by Matt Murray for wearebird.co]. I'm a photographer and art director based in Los Angeles, CA. I was previously the Online Visuals Editor and Operations Director of Darling Magazine. I'm a big fan of real conversation, wearing turtlenecks and drinking sparkling water.
What I love about photography is you not only create something beautiful but you can use it to show others their beauty through it. Most of the time the way we view ourselves is significantly different than the way others see us. I love being able to show others how I see them and see beauty in that.
What was your experience like at Darling Magazine?
At Darling, I was the Online Visuals Editor and Operations Director essentially meaning I had two very separate jobs – haha. I ran the Instagram as well as did design and photography for the digital realm of Darling. The second half of my job was to oversee the shipping, logistics, and customer service of the company. Both very different jobs, both taught me a lot.
Tell us about one of your most recent projects. What was that process like?
One of my most recent projects I have been working on is a personal one – a photo essay on my grandfather. He means a lot to me and has been getting more sick with heart problems and dementia. He has lived an amazing, has an incredible story and so humble. I want to be able to honor him and let his story live on even after he is no longer here. I flew out to Colorado to spend time with him, talk with him and take photos of him over a day’s time. I am now working on pulling the whole story together. I am excited to see how the whole project comes together and be able to gift this to my family as well as keep it near to my heart.
How did you first get into photography? What do you love about photography?
I first got into photography at 16 while I was in high school yearbook. I didn't know much, but one of my friends from class introduced me to shooting film and from there I knew photography was something I wanted to do. What I love about photography is you not only create something beautiful but you can use it to show others their beauty through it. Most of the time the way we view ourselves is significantly different than the way others see us. I love being able to show others how I see them and see beauty in that.

The philosophy that drives And Comfort is the idea of finding delight in the everyday What’s something that brings you delight or keeps you inspired?
One thing that brings me delight and keep me inspired are my close friends. From the highs to the lows they are always there and having a strong support system and community is something I think everyone needs to have a healthy, happy and balanced life.
